The Course
Students will have the opportunity to walk laps around the Monta Loma field during the school day and may continue walking after school is dismissed. Permission slips will be sent home for kids who would like to continue walking after school. In lieu of the permission slip, you can also complete this online permission form. Kids must be accompanied by an adult for the after-school portion.
Students are not required to raise funds in order to participate in the Walk-A-Thon.
Pledges
Students can help raise funds by collecting pledges from friends and family. An envelope will be sent home for students to collect pledges in person (cash or check to Monta Loma PTA), and you can additionally set up a page on 99Pledges for your student to collect pledges online. Don’t forget to check if your company will match your donation! See instructions here for setting up a page. Note that pledges are flat donations and are not based on laps completed.
Envelopes can be returned to classrooms until Tuesday, March 26th. After that, you can return the envelope to the front office. Pledges (cash, check, and online) will be accepted through Friday, March 29th.
Prizes
Kids will earn a small prize and a ticket for the raffle for every 5 laps completed. If they reach their lap goals (30 laps for TK – 1 and 50 laps for 2-5), they will earn additional tickets for the raffle and a medal. Prizes include tickets to the The Tech Museum, CuriOdyssey, SF Zoo, Bay Area Discovery Museum, and movie tickets as well as fun experiences with teachers and more!
This year, families can also purchase raffle tickets for a better chance of winning prizes! You can purchase them at the event for $0.50/ticket.
The PTA is holding classroom-level prizes where students can earn additional raffle tickets based on how much the class fundraises. Here are the tiers:
- Classroom raises $1500+ – Each student gets 7 raffle tickets
- Classroom raises $1000-$1499 – Each students gets 5 raffle tickets
- Classroom raises $500-$999 – Each student gets 3 raffle tickets
Food
Fruit and water will be freely available to the kids as they’re walking. Additional food items will be available for purchase at the event. Please bring cash in small denominations.
