The Walk-A-Thon is almost here! Below are the answers to some frequently asked questions. Feel free to contact montalomapta@gmail.com if you still have questions or need assistance.
Students are NOT required to raise funds. ALL students are welcome to participate in the Walk-A-Thon on Friday, March 31st. Students will have a chance to begin their laps with their class during the school day, and they are welcome to continue walking after school as long as they are accompanied by an adult. Students can earn prizes regardless of whether they collected pledges. All families are welcome to join the event after school is dismissed at 3:00pm.
Both programs (Right At School and Beyond The Bell) have agreed to accompany their students to the Walk-A-Thon. All students who participate will have access to free healthy snacks while they walk and will be able to earn prizes.
Your child can return their envelope to their teacher by March 27th. Or, if you prefer, you can bring your envelope directly to the front office. Finally, if you’re planning to collect some last-minute pledges, you can give your envelope to a PTA board member at the Walk-A-Thon.
Envelopes can be returned to classrooms until March 27th. After that, you can return the envelope to the front office or to a PTA officer. Pledges (cash, check, and online) will be accepted through Friday, March 31st.
Funds raised by the PTA are used for library books, field trips, assemblies, and more! This year, the PTA has provided funds for teachers to not only purchase classroom supplies, but also for additional educational materials, prizes to encourage learning, and fun projects. The PTA even purchased pancake-making supplies to help STEAM students understand the states of matter!
Additional funds have been allocated for field trips and assemblies. Field trips this year included a trip to the Baylands where students went fishing, a visit to the Palo Alto Junior Museum & Zoo to learn about animal adaptations, a visit from Sager Family Farm to figure out what’s the big buzz about bees, and there are more trips and assemblies to come!
The Walk-A-Thon is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and it’s the one time when we ask that you reach out to friends and family to help support our school. You can use the envelope that came home with your student to collect cash or checks, and you can also create a page for your student on 99Pledges. Every contribution helps us reach our goal.
If the weather is good, the walking route will be a loop around the grassy field next to the school. If there will be significant rain, we will switch to an alternate route under the eaves of the Monta Loma campus.
No, kids are free to take as many breaks as they’d like! They can take some time to rest, eat, chat with friends and then walk laps again.
Students can earn a medal for achieving their lap goal. For kindergarteners – 2nd graders, the lap goal is 30 and for 3rd – 5th graders it is 40.
Tickets will be given after walking lap #3, #5 lap and then in increments of 5 afterwards (ex. after walking 10, 15, 20 laps etc).
We have so many to list! They include tickets to the Exploratorium, Bay Area Discovery Museum, SF MOMA, SF Zoo, fun activities with Ms Carrell & Ms. Fox, a popcorn party, Squishmallows, Lego sets and more! Come by the prize table during the Walk-A-Thon to see them all!
Pizza, hot dogs, cotton candy and drinks will be available for purchase after school ends. There will also be free snacks and a water dispenser for kids to refill their water bottle.
Yes! Kids will write their name and classroom number on their prize drawing tickets. If they aren’t present when the winners are announced at the end of the event (6PM), their teacher can give them the prize at school the following week.
